What does work in confined spaces mean?
Working in confined spaces often involves an increased risk, since getting in to and out of them may be difficult. Injuries and accidents that happen in these spaces can prove to be extra challenging, since the rescue operation is often complex. For this reason, rescue training should be performed before the work starts, so the rescue workers have good knowledge of the method and equipment used. A rescue operation must be well planned and possible to execute fast, as the rescue workers may risk lack of oxygen or being exposed to dangerous gases in these environments.
How do I know I am working in a confined space?
The definition of a confined space is a complex matter. Traditionally it translates to wells and silos, but it can be so much more. Large industrial machines, where service work is carried out, tend to pass under the radar when an inventory of confined spaces is performed at our industries. This means it can be a good idea to get help when confined spaces are to be identified.
Why do I need specific knowledge when it comes to confined spaces?
As mentioned earlier, it may involve difficult environments, which means you need knowledge in how to work safely, identify risks, and set up an efficient rescue plan.
What does the training involve, and where do I train?
We have two different courses, that are slightly different.
The first course is about how to identify a confined space, perform a risk analysis, and set up a rescue plan connected to work and rescue methods. Knowledge of ventilation and air supply is also included in the course, and you get to try the different methods and see solutions for confined spaces. The course can be held at one of our training facilities or at the client’s.
The second is more adapted to the client, where methods and equipment are decided by us and the client together, before the course starts. In this course the methods are practiced, so the participants get the knowledge and skills they need to work safely and be able to save each other in their specific environment.
Do I need any previous knowledge?
For both courses you need to have passed a basic course in fall protection.
